What is Kenney Culture?

To get a better understanding of our family prior to hearing our stories during the trip, I wanted to share a little bit of knowledge that was written for our Kenney Family Reunion in August. (Yes, we've got a lot of good family time coming up).

When I think about Kenneys, I think about…

-Fiercely loyal: Our family is always there for each other through the good, the bad, and the very ugly. Believe me, we have seen it all! We are by no means perfect, but we stand by each other with no judgments. Even with a myriad of opinions, perspectives, and personalities, we believe in each other and the innate good of each member of the Kenney Clan.

-Unequivocal love: How many people can say that they have at least 153 people who love them? Thanks to the impressive examples of our elder generation, it is beyond obvious that we are loved! From the all-encompassing Uncle Tim hug to the sweet kisses of Archer Peanut, it is truly a blessing to be surrounded by four generations of unconditional love. The “Kenney Goodbye” is living proof of this.

-Steadfast faith: Patty. John & Kathy. Tom & Mick. Bob & Rosemary. Dave & Gerry. Tim & Dolly. Jim & Mary. These thirteen amazing people have shown us heaven on earth. Their undying faith in God has taught our family what it means to seek a source of strength, a hungry spirit, and a humble soul. Through this strong faith, the Kenneys are committed to education, social justice, and seeing the good in our world.

-Astonishing strength: “Be kinder than necessary; for everyone is fighting some sort of battle.”  The Kenney family has battled with everything from depression to alcoholism, cancer to chronic illness. Despite the challenges that surround us, our strength has never crumbled. Even the youngest of Kenneys exudes an inspiring amount of strength and fortitude. 

-Always uplifting: A Kenney is someone who lifts you up when you need it the most or when you didn’t even know that you needed it at all. Kenneys love to boost your confidence with simple, yet powerful words. When you walk into a room of Kenneys, it is an overwhelming sensation of positive energy. Kenneys genuinely believe that you are the greatest thing that has happened to the world. And gosh darn it…you are! They will tell you this…over and over and over again (just like the way we tell stories).

Simply put, life is ALWAYS better at a Kenney party!
